Carrental darbhanga
Sunday, August 27, 2012 A quick note to thank all the good folks at the Carrental for coming up to Dhaka to offer a couple of full-day Car rentals in order to take us on a whirlwind holiday. (We're all back to work tomorrow, but the team will be doing a couple of presentations for the next while as we finish out our two week program). I am a big fan of Car Rentals because the flexibility they offer is a big part of the package. I usually rent cars for 2 full days to avoid the problem of having to return a rental car that day. This time, I rented a Car for 24 hours which meant that I could return to a Car with my bags that we had left behind. That was a huge blessing. In addition, I got to travel in comfort, with a comfortable vehicle and all the amenities that a Car rental has to offer. Sunday, July 30, 2012 The main reason I had chosen to come to Dhaka was to attend the conference and present my paper (on the topic of "Sustainability Leadership - Building a Shared Vision" that I had written just after the earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand). During the conference, I had also met with a few people who I was hoping to connect with to take up work opportunities in the area of "Sustainability Leadership". A lot of these people are in their mid-thirties or early forties and, since they have to travel around the world for work, they have limited time. Some of them were doing work through some of the many NGOs working in the area and it seemed like a good option to take up work through the likes of Carrental. After the conference, I spent a few days in Dhaka (with my colleagues Veena and Suman) which included doing some sight-seeing. On that day, I met with a colleague and a friend of mine who lives in Dhaka and was a real inspiration to me: Iqbal Alam. He is in his late forties and runs the NGO "Jagriti Bangladesh". He runs a number of projects (and I hope that I will be able to get in touch with him later) and has his own business called "Sukra-Iqbal". He's a very down-to-earth and kind-hearted man and had come to Dhaka because he needed to get some stuff imported from India. As it happens, I was in the right place at the right time. We had an interview in the office of the NGO and at the end of it, I was asked by Iqbal to write down my contact information. The next time we chatted, he mentioned that they were doing some work and I could come and join them. I mentioned that I was just returning from a Car rental place, but that he could get in touch with me and that I would be happy to join up. So, the next time I chatted with him, I gave him my contact details and after a few days, I got a call from him. It was very exciting for me because this was someone that I had not met, and for that to come together was a very positive thing. We had arranged to meet at Carrental after the conference. After the conference, I came back home in Bangalore. I went straight to our office to find that I was the only one there and started preparing for my presentation for the conference. I got to work on some other things, then I got a call from Veena who said that she was coming into town with a colleague to get some stuff from us. I checked the availability of rooms in the office and there were no rooms available, so I said I would help her and see if I could find some rooms for her at the Carrental. We arranged to meet at 7 pm and I booked
