According to a legend, King Puransu of ancient Bihar and his wife Suryavati had a dream about finding a new capital for the region. After the dream they decided to build a new city on the bank of Sone River. For the construction of the new capital of Mithila, King Puransu and Queen Suryavati enlisted the services of 100 thousands of workers.
